Pastor's Bio

Pastor Steven Edwards, serves as the pastor of the Fourth Ward Missionary Baptist Church, Ennis, Texas. Pastor Edwards is married to Darlene and has three sons. He preached his first sermon as pastor of Fourth Ward on December 30, 1990. Pastor Edwards begin his ministry of preaching (1978) under the late Reverend Dr. C.C. Robertson then pastor of the Community Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. He served under the late Rev. Dr. R.M. Robertson pastor of the Jordan Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas and Rev. Dr. Paul E. Walker of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. Friendship Baptist Church serves as Pastor Edwards’ home church.

Pastor Edwards was born in DeRidder, Louisiana. He attended public school in Lawton, Oklahoma and Dallas, Texas. He graduated from L.G. Pinkston High School (1977). He has attended Dallas Baptist University, Southern Bible Institute of Dallas Texas, Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas; received a Bachelor of Religious Arts in Education from Clarion School of Ministry (Blackwell, Oklahoma), a Master of Theology from Slidell Baptist Seminary (Slidell, Louisiana) and a Certificate in “Caring for People God’s Way” from Light University (Forest, Virginia).

Pastor Edwards is a member of the Progressive Ministerial Alliance of Ellis County (where he formerly served as Instructor in Ministerial Ethics), member of General Baptist Convention of Texas, member of the Ellis Baptist Association (where he serves on the Leadership Team) and a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Under Pastor Edwards’ leadership the church actively supports Helping Hands of Ennis, Unity in the Community of Ennis, Give a Kid a Chance of Ennis, and Mission Ennis Bridge Builders.

Pastor Edwards has a servant heart and a calling for preaching and teaching the Word of God. Also, he has a burden to minister to hurting people and to help them reach personal wholeness, mental stability, and spiritual maturity. One of Pastor Edwards’ sustaining verses that have kept him through many a storm is, “From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2)
